Alternative stock items (stock record)

About alternative stock items

You can select suitable items that can be offered as alternatives when a requested stock item is unavailable.

To do this you create a list of alternatives on the stock item with one item set as the preferred alternative item.

When stock is issued from a Sales Order, the stock levels are checked. If the stock is unavailable, you can choose a preferred alternative, provided sufficient stock is available.

If you are using Manufacturing, alternative stock items are not considered by MRP.

To assign alternatives

Open: Stock Control > Stock Records > Enter New Stock Item | Alternatives.

1. To add an alternative stock item, click Add.

   The Alternative Stock Item Selection window is displayed.

2. Select the alternative item and click OK.

If the selected alternative is a different product type a warning is displayed.

3. To set the preferred alternative, select the item and click Set as Preferred. The Preferred column is set to Yes.
