Add target

About adding targets

You can add any number of targets to a feature that you have added.

Any targetA target is the action associated with a feature. Each feature must have a target in order to do something. For example, a target could be to open a form (window), produce a report, run any OS Invocable (any application or process you can access through the Run option in the Microsoft Windows Start menu), open a workspace (an area on your desktop which can contain several panels of information from Sage 200 modules), or open a content part (an area of a workspace). All features installed with Sage 200 and with any add-on packages have targets added automatically. you add will be available for inclusion on a menu within the Menu Design Mode by any user who is authorised to use the feature.

To add targets

Open: System Administration > Features.

1. Select the feature group, then right-click the feature and choose Add Target.

   You can also choose Show Targets to display any existing targets in the Targets tab under Feature Properties. You can click Add from there to add new targets.

2. Set values for the target.

   Target Name

   This is the name of the target. It should help you identify the target action.

   Target Type

   Form

   This is a data entry form.

   When the feature is selected within Sage 200, a data entry form opens.

   Report

   This is a report.

   When the feature is selected within Sage 200, a report is produced.

   Any OS Invocable

   This is anything which you can invoke through the Run option in the Microsoft Windows Start menu.

   For example, this can be an executable program, an internet address, or the address of a folder on the Sage 200 server.

   When the feature is selected within Sage 200, the program will start to run or the page or folder will open.

   Workspace or Content Part

   This is an Information Management area within the desktop.

   Service Call

   This is a call to a service within Sage 200.

   Web

   This is a call to a web action for Sage 200 Self Service.

   Target Action

   This determines what happens when the feature is selected.

   It depends on the Target Type. If the target type is a form, when the feature is selected the form will open. If the target type is a report, when the feature is selected a report will be produced.

   If the Target Type is Form

   1. Select the feature group and select the feature.
      • If you are adding a target, right-click and choose Add target.
      • If you are changing a target, right-click and choose Show Targets to display existing targets in the Targets tab under Feature Properties.
      • Select an existing target.
      • Click Properties from there to change the target properties.
      • If the Target Type is Form, enter the name of the Form. If you don't know the name of the form, click the browse (...) button to select the form.
   2. To select a custom form:
   • Select Custom Assembly.

   • Click the browse (...) button to select an assemblyA collection of Sage 200 or third party forms (windows)..

     Select the form that you want from the list of forms displayed.

   3. To select a Sage 200 form:
   • Select Sage 200 Assemblies.
   • If Sage 200 forms are held locally on your computer:
   • Select Local Folder.
   • Click the browse (...) button to select the folder where the forms are held.
   • If Sage 200 forms are held on the server:
   • Select Global Assembly Cache.

   • Click within List of Assemblies and select the assembly which contains the form that you want to use.

     For example, if you are looking for a Sales Ledger form, this will be in the assembly that begins, Sage.MMS.SalesLedger

   • Select the form that you want.

     For example, MaintainCustomerAccountForm.

   4. Click Select to confirm the form selection.

   If the Target Type is Report

   • If you know the report name, enter the report name.
   • If you don't know the report name, and you are using an On Premise deploymentof Sage 200, click the browse (...) button to select the form from c:\sage\reporting.

   • Standard reports are listed by module within the default folder. Any custom reports added using Sage Report Designer should have been added to the custom folder or to the company specific folder.

     • Select the reports folder and the report that you want to use.
     • Click Open.
     If you are using Sage 200 Online, you cannot use the browse button but can enter online targets directly in the Target Action box, by typing the [parent folder]\[file name], for example, sales\Sales Ledger List of Accounts.report.

   If the Target Type is Any OS Invocable

   • If you can run the application or process, type the target name or enter the target address in the Target Action box; e.g. Notepad.exe.

   • Alternatively, click the browse (...) button to select the location of the exe file or folder.

     In general, targets should be available on each local computer from which the targets will be invoked. If not, you should include the UNCUniversal Naming Convention (UNC) format specifies the location of resources on the network. The computer name is prefaced by two backslashes \\ whilst directories are prefaced by one \. path to the computer where the target is held.

   • Click Open.

   If the Target Type is Workspace or Content Part

   • If you know the location and name, enter these.

   • If you don't know the location and name, click the browse (...) button to select the location.

     In general, targets should be available on each local computer from which the targets will be invoked.    • Click Open.

   If the Target Type is Service Call

   • Enter the target action of the service call in the following syntax.

   For example:

   |SystemAdminClient/ConnectCompany

   or

   |AOMService/GetAddOn

   If the Target Type is Web

   • Enter the action using the following syntax. For example:

   WTE/AuthoriseExpenses

   or

   Spooler/ViewReport

   Target GUID

   Click New GUID to enter a new Globally Unique Identifier.

   This uniquely identifies the target to the feature.

   If you want to manually distribute the target and you know the GUIDThe Globally Unique Identifier is a string of characters which uniquely identifies a feature or a target. which has already been used for the target by other users, enter the Target GUID manually.

   The Target GUID is not related to the feature GUID.

   Target Description

   This is the description of the target.

   Target Launcher

   Only applicable if your Target Type is Form.

   Enter the Sage 200 Target Launcher name or select from the drop down list of available names.

   The target launcherA program which is used to open the form (window) identified by the target. is responsible for opening the form.

   The default launcher is Sage.MMS.Launcher.Stub.

   If you have written a different launcher, you can select it here.

3. Click Save to confirm the target entries.
